Homeowner Oil Heating System Upgrade and Insurance Law

New Massachusetts Law requires all homeowners to upgrade their oil heating equipment to prevent leaks from tanks and pipes connected to furnaces by September 30, 2011. Also Homeowner insurance companies must offer coverage for leaks from oil heat systems.

Please Note: Some homeowner policies do not currently include such coverage, leaving many (insureds) to pay for costly cleanups out of their own pocket. It is mandatory that insurance companies make this coverage available by July 1, 2010 to homeowners whose systems are upgraded, but keep in mind you may need to purchase this additional coverage.

Lex Insurance Agency reviews its customer's homeowner policies approx 30 +/- days before the anniversary date. If Lex Insurance is your Homeowner agent, you will receive, by US Postal Mail, a renewal coverage recommendation letter (on letterhead) with a form named…
